SAVAGE 10FP Savage rifles are known for producing high-quality yet inexpensive rifles. Those are two qualities you usually dont find together. Savage is the exception. The 10FP is a counter-part to the 110FP. The 10 is a short action, while the 110 is a long action. The short-action is actually more of a medium action, when compared to rifles like the Remington 700 series. But it is a lot easier to manage than a long-action, especially for off-hand shooting. The 10FP is a tactical rifle. The FP is a product code. The F is for Synthetic Stock, while the P is for Police. The 10FP has an 18 to 24 barrel, chambered in .223 (5.56x45), .308 (7.62x51), .260 Remington, and 7mm-08. The rifle has a built-in magazine that holds 4 rounds (the actual magazine well is big enough for a .300 Win Mag.). The 10FP barrel is a heavy target barrel with a recessed muzzle. Matte blue and drilled and tapped for scope mounts. In .308, the twist is 1:10. A nice feature with the 10FP is that there are three sling studs. Two up front, one in back; the foremost stud is used for a bipod. The Savage is capable of well under MOA at 100 yards out of the box. Combined with a good scope and youre looking at under MOA out to 300 yards. There are only two things on the 10FP that could use some refinement, the trigger and the stock. The trigger is roughly 7 to 9 lbs out of the box, with about a inch of travel. There are aftermarket trigger assemblies out there, and a good gunsmith can take the trigger down to something easier (mine is set at 3 lbs with no travel.). The Stock is another issue altogether. The stock on the 10FP, if some torque were applied, would move the barrel of the rifle at least two inches off target. Otherwise its an excellent rifle. Im usually able to achieve a good sub- inch group at 100 yards (with old Military surplus ammo), and can sometimes (with good ammo) do it at 300 yards. If youre looking to get into Tactical shooting, and dont mind shelling out a bit more for a good scope, this is definitely the way to go. The Savage 10FP has a MSRP of $486, this is well below any other rifle that will give you the same accuracy out of the box. |
